Decolonization: Between memory and reconciliation – [PRESENTIAL]

Would you like to understand more about the societal issues behind the debate on Belgium's colonial past? Would you like to develop your own analysis in order to actively participate in this debate as a citizen? We offer you 3 training sessions of 2 hours during which we will look at the challenges of memory work by focusing on Belgium's colonial past in Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Carry out memory work on a conflict, recent or not, is crucial to consider the possibility of reconciliation, conducive to living together in a society. This approach is also applicable to situations such as the colonial past, which awakens deep-rooted wounds and questions our collective identity. Since memory plays an essential role in conflict prevention, talk about the past and deconstruct stereotypes in spaces of dialogue and using reading grids, all while keeping a critical perspective, sometimes helps prevent injuries from reappearing too suddenly. This then promotes the building an inclusive society.
